For anyone who visits Orlando, a trip to Universal Studios is usually high on the must-see list. With three theme parks, hilarious shows, countless Kodak moments, and a strong social media presence, what's not to love? But as a foodie, there's one thing in particular that I love about Universal: the food.
Each park offers an array of tantalizing cuisines to cater to every tourist's tastebuds. But beyond the parks, Universal Citywalk is a haven of food open to all (even those without park tickets!). Recently, Universal added the popular chain Voodoo Doughnuts to Citywalk plaza, and so of course I had to try it!
Stepping inside the store (after a brief wait in line), you are greeted by an eclectic display of souvenirs, winding staircase, rotating donut display case (OMG), voodoo/NOLA-esque decor, and the sweet, sweet smell of donuts emanating from the kitchen.
Now here's what really shook me: the MENU!!! Ranging from $2-$6, Voodoo offers crazy (delicious) flavors for cake, raised, and vegan doughnuts. Check out the full menu here!
After drooling at the display for a solid few minutes, I decided on three flavors: the ODB (oreo and peanut butter raised donut), chocolate coconut cake donut, and a vanilla-glazed Cap'n Crunch raised donut. It totaled $5.99 with my Universal Passholder discount, so my wallet was *almost* as happy as my tummy.
Overall, I was amazed at how soft and sweet the dough itself was. I was worried that they would be hard because of how fast they were being made (hungry tourists LOVE unhealthy things). The toppings only added to the flavor, especially with the nice crunch of the Cap'n Crunch cereal. I honestly liked the raised more than the cake donut. It was bigger, fluffier, and left me less full (aka more donut room) than the cake donut did.
So all in all, my Voodoo experience was one to remember. I actually like it more than Butterbeer (please don't h8 me, Harry Potter fans). Like you can get three donuts for the price of one Butterbeer--insane!
If you're ever at Universal, or just Orlando in general, you need to try Voodoo Doughnuts. This is one decision you won't regret, trust me!
